M'Lady Capn'
acrylic on canvas

My class assignment was to research a famous illustrator and create a self-portrait in that illustrator's style and medium. I chose Howard Pyle, who both wrote and illustrated boy's adventure books at the turn of the 20th century. Also, yet again, I managed to squeeze one of my own characters into my classwork. This is M'Lady Captain Marie Jeanette DelaMer, and her reluctant crewman Jack Starling, formerly known as Captain Starling. I am currently considering repainting Jack since he looks a little too much like a certain character who is owned by a rather large company that shall remain nameless at the moment. The composition is based on Pyle's painting The Buccaneer Was a Picturesque Fellow.
